As levels of automation increase in the vehicles we drive, we can expect that our drivers will continue to transition their role from active driver, to monitor, to disengaged driver who may be attending to something other than even monitoring the vehicle in-transit. These increasing levels of automation require us to ensure that our drivers will be made aware so that they may reorient their attention and take over active driving whenever needed. Ensuring this and providing a seamless transition of control from automation to the driver is critical for safety and user experience. This presentation samples the ongoing research, encouraging your awareness and involvement in its evolution and application.
