Distracted driving is a pressing issue in the United States, resulting in more than 3,000 annual fatalities. This alarming statistic underscores the critical need for enhanced safety measures on our roadways. Paradoxically, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), designed to increase safety, have been found to inadvertently foster driver complacency, thus exacerbating the risk to road safety. To address this concern, the proposed legislation seeks to mandate the implementation of driver-monitoring technology in all vehicles. By ensuring that drivers remain engaged and attentive while using ADAS, this legislation aims to mitigate the dangers of distracted driving, potentially saving lives and making our roads safer for all.
