Dr. Bryan Reimer

Research Scientist, Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Dr. Reimer is the founder and co-director of the MIT AgeLab’s Advanced Vehicle Technology (AVT) consortium and Advanced Human Factors Evaluator for Attentional Demand (AHEAD) consortium. He is a research advisory board member for Autoliv, an advisor to AI Sweden, former advisor to Affectiva, and a member of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Transforming Transportation Advisory Committee. He collaborates with industries, governments, and non-government organizations worldwide on the topics of driver safety, vehicle automation and other technological concerns related to human factors and Artificial Intelligence.
A seasoned conference and event presenter, Reimer has provided keynote addresses on the topics of driver attention and vehicle automation. In his 2018 TEDx talk, “There’s more to the safety of driverless cars than AI”, he discusses the undertreated health crisis on our roads and the limits of focusing on automation alone as a solution. He suggests that the modernization and automation of our mobility ecosystem will require increased transparency and collaboration between the public and private sectors to enhance consumer trust and make vehicle automation the most critical life-saving technology of the century. He is an author on over 250 technical contributions informing technology development, business strategy, and public policy.

The Pop in Your Job – What drives you? Why do you love your job?
I am a mobility futurist, respected for my down-to-earth perspectives on disruptive automotive, mobility, and related technological trends. I am driven by my ability to identify business opportunities, policy and technological solutions based on my pre-competitive work with dozens of companies, non-governmental organizations, and governments worldwide. I find research at the intersection of public policy and advanced technologies involving AI and self-driving vehicles exciting. I enjoy challenging organizations to think beyond the status quo and leverage AI and other new technologies to shape product strategies in ways that best meet evolving consumer behaviors as we work toward a safer, greener, and more convenient mobility system.
