Sound is more than an auditory cue — it’s a powerful tool for shaping perception, guiding behavior, and creating emotional connections. As electric vehicles transform the acoustic landscape, designers face the challenge of crafting sounds that ensure safety, reinforce brand identity, and evoke emotion in a world where silence dominates. This session dives into the art and science of automotive sound design. From external acoustic alerts to immersive in-cabin soundscapes, we’ll explore how sonic elements influence usability and comfort. Drawing on principles of cognitive psychology and multimodal interaction, we’ll reveal how sound works in harmony with other sensory cues to create intuitive, engaging experiences. Finally, we’ll discuss the creative and technical considerations driving the future of EV sound design.
